As Americans, we are all responsible for shaping the values of our society. We can continue tolerating and, in some cases, endorsing the patriarchal values that deprive our society of the creativity, ingenuity, talent, and vision of the people stifled by this hierarchy, or we can fight this system of oppression. The foundation of social values is built in each of our homes. This is the best place to begin our social transformation.
The goal of The Bellatrix Series is to teach children to love and respect themselves as well as the other beings with which they share the planet. Some of the topics we plan to tackle are: how to deal with injustice, respecting personal boundaries, accepting people's differences, understanding others' perspectives, and realizing that your feelings are valid and should be respected.
The secondary goal of this series is to increase children's vocabulary. These books contain some advanced vocabulary with learning supports built in. They are best read with an adult (at least the first couple of times). We offer a free downloadable activity book with each purchase so your child can continue practicing using their new vocabulary words!
We hope you and your children will enjoy reading about Bellatrix and learn a bunch along the way!!!

Hi! I am Bellatrix (Trix for short). My dad told me "Bellatrix" means warrior. Every morning I look in the mirror and remind myself that I am a fighter and can do anything I put my mind to. NO ONE will ever convince me that I can't. In fact, I've already done many, many things. I've built a tree fort. I've cooked my own dinner (every Tuesday for the past two years, in fact). I've caught tons of newts. I've climbed the tallest tree in the forest. And, I've outrun the fastest boy at school.
I've also had all kinds of adventures. My dad and I used to live alone, so I spent a lot of time playing by myself or with my best friend, Leo, in the woods while my dad worked. There's a river, a creepy cottage, tons of dangerous animals, and lots of other exciting things to discover. You can read my books to hear all about our adventures and the lessons we've learned along the way!

My name is "Little Man." My mommy calls me that because I'm smarter than all the other kids (probably the grown-ups too). I can get them to do whatever I want. I always get my way. I'm good at pretty much anything I do. I always win. Other kids wish they could be me. My mom always buys me the best toys and makes me whatever I want for dinner. I deserve to get what I want since I can outsmart anyone.

Hey! I'm Leo. I have lots of brothers and sisters so I like to get out of the house for some peace and quiet. I like hanging out in the forest because I can do whatever I want without people telling me what to do. That's where I met Trix. She's never bossy and likes to climb trees so we get along great. We've had all sorts of crazy adventures together, but we always make it through. She's got my back and I've got hers!
